what's not to like about palm trees? whether you're lying under one (you lucky creature!), dreaming of one, oooor wearing it: palm trees are magical. but there's one specific kind we're particularly obsessed with.

raffia: more than just a beautiful shade provider

there are many reasons for loving raffia as a material. but let's start at the beginning, shall we?

native mainly to the tropical regions of africa, especially madagaskar, raffia is the name of around twenty species of palm trees. the membrane of the underside of each palm tree leaf can be cultivated and transformed into the fiber we so much love. the raffia fiber, which can be dyed and woven as a textile, can be found in various products such as bags, shoes, lamps, baskets, coasters, and many more. so, cover me in raffia.

natural, versatile, light-weight yet strong

but what makes raffia such a great and sustainable material? a striking argument in favor of raffia is that it is a completely natural textile. it is furthermore compostable and biodegradable. but raffia is not only good for the planet, it's good for the quality of the product as well: this fiber is a very strong material, while also being super light-weight, which makes for great comfort for shoes or bags for example.
