Care

caring for ENKA® viscose

this fabric a bit delicate so take care - just make sure you wash it gently. not warmer than 30 degrees is just right. use a mild detergent and a delicate cycle. you can either use a wash bag or wash it by hand. the best thing about it - you can hang to dry and you won't have any wrinkles!

what is ENKA® viscose?

ENKA® Viscose filament yarn is based on the renewable raw material wood, which consists of 40 – 50 % cellulose – the most common organic and renewable plant material.

why love ENKA® viscose?

apart from being environmentally friendly (it is even biodegradable!) this fabric is a dream to wear. it is flowy, soft and breathable and was inspired by silk.

ENKA® viscose production

the filament yarn is produced in closed cycles in germany and poland.

ENKA is exclusively sourcing FSC® certified cellulose, which fully originates from local, legal and sustainable forestation. Therefore, ENKA itself is FSC® certified and has developed its own Wood Pulp Procurement Policy in order to promote sustainable forest management and the protection of ancient and endangered forests. Within the framework of the CanopyStyle Initiative, ENKA was successfully audited as the first filament yarn producer (please find the full results of the CanopyStyle audit). ENKA® Viscose has received the Cradle to Cradle Product Innovation Institute's Gold level Material Health Certificate. Additionally, ENKA® Viscose has been selected as „responsible fiber“ according to the Fairtrade Textile Standard by nonprofit organization Fairtrade International. Therefore, ENKA® Viscose can be used in supply chains that are certified entirely under the terms of the Fairtrade Textile Standard.

Production

1. design

jan 'n june founders anna and jula still do all of the design work themselves. they are mastering that challenge, despite living in two different countries. luckily they're pros at long-distance teamwork.

so the design process is split between hamburg and dubai.

2. raw material

while shopping slow and fair fashion pieces, we don't want you to miss out on the comfort and elegance of viscose. so let us introduce you to ECOVERO™: the austrian fiber supplier Lenzing AG has a sustainable take on viscose, based on renewable wood from certified sources. once you go sustainable, you never go back.

the ECOVERO™ for this piece of clothing was produced in Austria.

3. yarn production

no matter which fibers we are talking about, they have to be spun into a yarn for further production steps.

the yarn production takes place in bursa, turkey.

4. fabric production

the next step of the supply chain is to weave the yarn into a fabric.
the fabric production is located in bursa, turkey.

5. manufacturing

that's where all the magic happens!
jan 'n june's manufacturers receive the patterns, fabrics, and other components like buttons or zippers and make them into a garment.

this piece is made in poland.

a bottle of wine, hamburg, summer 2013. that’s when it all started with the question “why is there no stylish, sustainable, and affordable fashion label?”. anna and jula couldn’t find the kind of fashion label they were looking for, so they simply decided to start their own. and all that while living in three different countries. piece of cake right? today jan 'n june is a sustainable fashion success story. all their items are fairly and transparently produced in portugal and poland, using only sustainable materials such as organic cotton, recycled polyester, lyocell, and many more. each and every one of their final items are provided with a qr-code showing its eco-id, from the supply chain to final production.

fashion, but make it slow.
